Ashwin Shantha is a PhD student in the Department of Politics at York University. They completed their MA in Political Science at Carleton University. Ashwin’s work looks at the political economy of development/underdevelopment in the global South, focusing particularly on China and South Asia, as well as migrant labour in Canada from the global South. Some of their existing work has researched South-South cooperation in development between China and Pakistan through the Belt and Road Initiative. They have also conducted research on the role of the 'international student economy' in Canada's labour regime.
