Devyn Remme

Devyn Remme is a doctoral candidate at the Center for Climate and Energy Transformations, University of Bergen, Norway. Her Masters thesis on the social dynamics of urban sustainable mobility transitions won the annual prize for most innovative Human Geography thesis in Norway. The broad topic of her doctoral research is the dark side of electric vehicles. This includes the social and environmental impacts of a massive boom in mining for minerals required for car batteries, value chain dynamics, waste concerns, circular economy aspirations and the gendered aspects of electric vehicle advocacy. So far the project has included field work on manganese mining in Luapula province of Zambia and policy analysis in EU and Norwegian contexts. Devyn has also designed and taught a popular undergraduate course on climate mitigation and adaptation (GEO283) and provided mentorship for students in UiB's interdisciplinary Masters program on sustainable development.
