PROJECT
Dr. Fasco Chengula is a Lecturer at the Institute of Resource Assessment (IRA), University of Dar es Salaam, with a PhD in Social and Environmental Anthropology from the University of Roehampton, London. He holds degrees in Geography and Environmental Studies(BA) and Climate Change and Sustainable Development (MSc), bringing a multidisciplinary lens to his academic and professional work. He teaches and researches topics including climate change adaptation, human security, sustainable development, land acquisition and resettlement, and social-ecological systems. His work explores the real-world impacts of environmental policy, especially on vulnerable communities. In addition to his academic role, he has extensive consultancy experience in the extractive, energy, and infrastructure sectors, with expertise in Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD), ESG assessments, and the design and implementation of Resettlement Action Plans (RAPs) and Livelihood Restoration Plans (LRPs) adhering to global standards including the IFC Performance Standards, World Bank Environmental and Social Framework, and the Equator Principles. Dr. Chengula has worked with diverse organizations such as Geita Gold Mine, TRC, TANESCO, EACOP,WWF, and several international ESG consultancies. His current interests focus on the intersection of critical minerals governance, social performance, and sustainability transitions in Africa’s resource frontiers.
