Rene Loewenson

Dr Rene Loewenson is a Zimbabwean epidemiologist, public health practitioner (FRSPH), director of Training and Research Support Centre, and convenor through TARSC of various international research consortia. She has been a member/ chair of national and UN global advisory bodies on health. She has several decades of experience and significant publication in research, including participatory action research, policy analysis, training, legal review, and input to global health diplomacy, within east and southern Africa and globally on health equity, social and commercial determinants of health, including as related to extractives. In the mining sector she led and convened research and training on analysis of legal standards, situation assessments, development of health literacy, capacity building for health impact assessment and policy dialogue on regional health standards in the extractive sector in East and Southern Africa, and linked with other regions, including Latin America in this work.
